The Naperville Community is Mourning the Loss of One of their Favorites, Hilary Decent
NAPERVILLE–Hilary Decent left a memorable mark on the local journalism scene through her compelling writing and commitment to storytelling. Known for her dynamic writing talent, through the years Hilary contributed to Glancer Magazine and various other local media outlets, establishing a reputation as an admired freelancer writer and fun-loving columnist.
As a features editor and columnist for Glancer Magazine more than a decade ago, one of her most memorable contributions was "HAPPY WITH GRUMPY", a recurring monthly column in 2010, where she infused her British wit and comedic charm into a humorous exploration of love and marriage.
"Hilary's column was truly loved. She was such a gifted and talented writer, and always so witty. Her passing is a tremendous loss to the entire community. My heart goes out to her husband Ross and their family," shared Lindy Kleivo, Glancer Magazine founder.
Hilary's work resonated with readers across Naperville and throughout the western suburbs for many reasons, including engaging content and reader relatability. Sadly, Hilary passed away on October 15 at the age of 67 after a short, courageous battle with brain cancer, leaving behind a legacy marked by both her professional achievements and personal warmth.
Hilary's contributions to the Naperville Sun and NCTV emphasized her versatility and dedication as a journalist. She had a unique ability to capture the essence of community life, sharing stories that highlighted the people and events that make Naperville vibrant. Her pieces often reflected a genuine passion for her subjects, bringing well-deserved attention to local issues and personal stories that could otherwise remain untold. According to Naperville Sun, her journalistic flair not only informed citizens but also fostered a sense of community, making readers feel connected to their surroundings in meaningful ways.
