Community Faces Unimaginable Loss as Matt Verde, Owner of Neat Kitchen + Bar is Struck and Killed
OSWEGO–Matthew Verde, a cherished entrepreneur and owner of Neat Kitchen + Bar in Westmont and Oswego, tragically passed away after being struck by a vehicle in Oswego on the evening of November 21, 2024. Verde, 49, was attempting to cross an access road near a Meijer store when he was hit by a car driven by a 17-year-old girl. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries three days later on November 24.
Verde’s untimely death has left a void in the local community. A GoFundMe campaign, launched to support his family, has so far raised close to $80,000. The funds will be used to help alleviate the financial impacts of his sudden passing and honor his legacy.
Known for his generous spirit and passion for bringing people together, Matt was a loving husband and devoted father of two. He was also a business owner who was loved and admired by many. Neat Kitchen + Bar, under his leadership, became a treasured gathering place in both communities where he operated– Westmont and Oswego. He was deeply involved in local initiatives and made it a point to give back. Whether through partnerships with community events or quietly helping those in need, Verde’s kindness left a lasting mark.
The loss has resonated deeply, with many sharing stories of his warm demeanor, willingness to lend a hand, and immense dedication to his family and business. His restaurant posted a message stating, “Life is short, and given this week is Thanksgiving, take a moment to appreciate the people in your life.”
