Bungee Fitness at Patriot Pilates
LOCKPORT–It’s the new year and resolutions are on the rise! Fitness is always at the top of my list; however, I hate working out, so I am always looking for creative ways to strengthen and tone without going to the gym.
As a thrill seeker by nature, insert the word bungee into exercise and I’m there! I recruited a few brave friends to join me in a revolutionary workout at Patriot Pilates called Bungee Fitness, that promised to combine strength training, cardio, and fun into a single, exhilarating experience.
After getting hooked into our harnesses, attached to bungee cords, suspended from the ceiling, our instructor patiently guided us in a range of movements, including jumps, lunges, squats, and even aerial tricks. Giggles ensued and I may have taken advantage of the gravity free zone more than a few times!
What sets bungee fitness apart is its low-impact nature and how seamlessly it incorporates music and choreography, making it as entertaining as it is effective. The movements were easy to follow; yet offered a challenge to execute. Our instructor counted us in to help us stay coordinated, and we managed to create a simple sequenced routine.
Choreography plays a crucial role in bungee fitness, transforming it into a dynamic and creative workout. These routines, designed to maximize the resistance provided by the bungee cords, often start with simple, flowing movements and gradually progress to more complex combinations, blending elements of dance, aerobics, and even gymnastics. The choreography challenges participants’ coordination, balance, and core strength while maintaining a fun and engaging atmosphere.
The spinning handstand and “pretty girl” flight made me feel like a kid again as I subtly discovered muscles I didn’t even know existed!
The fusion of music and choreography definitely elevated bungee fitness beyond a traditional workout; feeling more like a dance party or performance, where we were encouraged to let loose, laugh, and enjoy the process. The sense of accomplishment after nailing a choreographed routine and mastering an aerial move was unmatched.
