I HAVE TO STAY HOME: A KID-FRIENDLY STORY ABOUT THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
OSWEGO–Why do we have to stay home? Why are schools closed? What’s a pandemic? These questions and more are answered in Oswego author Colleen LeMaire’s sixth book in her I HAVE children’s book series, I Have to Stay Home: A Kid-Friendly Story About the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Colleen created The I HAVE Series to take the “scary” out of new scenarios and help calm fears in an age-appropriate manner. “In many ways, the pandemic has disrupted, shifted and changed children’s lives more than anyone else,” says Colleen. “I’m a big believer that when you don’t explain situations to kids, they are left to their own imaginations…and many times the conclusions they gather are a whole lot worse than what is actually happening.”
Consulting a nurse, a doctor, a therapist and a school counselor to ensure she was using appropriate language and correct medical terminology, Colleen has written easy-to-understand explanations, tips to stay healthy and creative ideas to have fun while staying safe for this unique time in history.
Other books in The I HAVE Series include, I Have Two Homes, which helps explain divorce, as well as I Have a Stepmom and I Have a Stepdad. Then came I Have Two Moms, and I Have Two Dads, representing kids with the same-sex parents.
Colleen’s books are available on both Amazon and her website www.theihaveseries.com.
