OFFICER BILL WISE, A 21-YEAR VETERAN OF LISLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, A TRUE HERO
LISLE–They say there are two kinds of heroes. Heroes who shine in the face of great adversity, who perform an amazing feat in a difficult situation. And heroes who live among us, who do their work unceremoniously, unnoticed by many of us, but who make a difference in the lives of others
Officer Bill Wise of the Lisle Police Department is BOTH!
News broke this morning of a multi-unit structure fire on the 2700 block of Wayfaring Lane in Lisle that occurred Tuesday night, September 22 around 10pm. Lisle Police Officers responded with Lisle-Woodridge FD.
Officer Bill Wise, a 21-year veteran of the Lisle PD, was close by at the time of the fire and quickly arrived on the scene. Bystanders informed him that a 14 year-old boy was trapped in the basement of one of the units.
Officer Wise forced entry into the unit but was initially overcome by flames & smoke. Rushing to the rear of the unit, he was able to remove articles that blocked a window well and pull the child from the basement egress window, saving him from the fire.
Wise and the teenager were both treated for smoke inhalation & exhaustion at the scene. Officer Wise was transported to a local hospital where he received additional treatment and was released early this morning.
Being a police officer is an act of heroism all of its own, and running into a burning building, doing everything possible to save a young boy is also truly heroic. Today, a local family, along with the entire community, is feeling very grateful for the heroic efforts of Officer Wise.
Thank you to the Lisle Police Department, Officer Wise and all first responders for all that you do!
