CHICAGOANS WILL NO DOUBT MISS THIS ICONIC GOLD COAST EATERY
CHICAGO–One of Gold Coast's most frequented hot spot, Tavern on Rush, is closing permanently October 26, 2022 after announcing in late summer that they would be shutting down for good on January 1, 2023. The early closure comes as a surprise to many, but the owners have shared that this month's closure is due to the end of their lease agreement with their landlord, and that is all.
In a message that was posted to their website Thursday, owner Phil Stefani shared that Tavern on Rush "had a verbal agreement to extend our management contract beyond its October 31 expiration date" which would allow the restaurant to continue serving customers through the end of the year "and end the Tavern on Rush era fittingly at the end of the year."
But "Due to contractual matters beyond our control," Stefani said he recently found out that Tavern on Rush would have to shut down the last week of October, with the last day of service October 26.
"We are disappointed that we have to speed up our closing date," Stefani wrote to Tavern on Rush's employees. "We tried to extend that, but could not. Please be assured we will keep you employed through the remainder of the year."
It has been noted that reservations made for November and December will be canceled.
Goodbye to Tavern on Rush – from so many Chicagoans, thanks for the memories!
