CHILDREN'S AUTHOR | Past Aurora Homeless Shelter Director Writes Book About Christmas for Poor

A [HOMELESS] CHRISTMAS STORY

A new children's book written by the former leader of Illinois' second largest homeless shelter, sheds light on what Christmas is like for the less fortunate.

Ryan Dowd, the former executive director of Hesed House in Aurora, wrote "A Homeless Christmas Story." The audio version of the book is narrated by actor, director and homeless advocate Emilio Estevez.

"Christmas Eves are real at the shelter," said Dowd. "Santa actually does come to the shelter and visit the residents."

A portion of the proceeds from sales for the book will be donated to Hesed House, which Dowd said is one small step towards ending homelessness.

"Humanity is worth the struggle. We are worth the struggle," he added. "Merry Christmas." –WBBM Newsradio
