17-YEAR-OLD GIRL WAS ABLE TO BREAK FREE
AURORA–On May 22, 2024, at 2:15 PM, a 17-year-old female notified police she was the victim of a kidnapping in the area of Illinois Avenue and Orchard Avenue in Aurora.
Officers arrived on scene and learned the victim was walking in a nearby neighborhood when a man, unknown to her, began following her. As she walked on the sidewalk in the 700 block of Orchard Avenue, the man quickly grabbed her from behind, covered her mouth with his hand, and dragged her away from the sidewalk. The victim was able to free herself from the man, at which time the man fled on foot. A description of the man was broadcast to Aurora Police officers.
At approximately 3:20pm, Aurora Police officers located a possible suspect near North Avenue and River Street. The man, 19-year-old Daniel Raines of Aurora, IL, was positively identified and taken into custody pending further investigation.
Detectives from the Aurora Police Department investigated the incident and charged Raines with the following:
- Kidnapping (class 2 felony)
- Attempt Kidnapping (class 3 felony)
- Aggravated Battery (class 3 felony)
- Battery (class A misdemeanor)
Raines was transported to the Kane County Jail and held for a pre-trial hearing.
Charges are not proof of guilt. The defendant listed in this release is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial, at which it is the burden of the State to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
