LOCAL ARTIST SHARES ABOUT HER LOVE FOR ART + POETRY
For 24 years, Downers Grove artist Dorothy Bury Shaw had an interior design business that she loved; however, she was always longing for the time when she could return to creating her art and poetry. Her design career entailed the use of color, composition and lots of drawing, which she enjoyed, but when the economy crashed, her design projects became fewer and her focus on her fine art rose to the surface.
A graduate of the Chicago Academy of Fine Art, majoring in editorial illustration and earning a faculty-choice full scholarship for her fourth year, Dorothy works in the mixed medias of ink, watercolor, colored pencil and collage. Her art can be purchased as originals, prints and notecards and is also featured with her original poetry in her book, Love Without Distance – A Heartscape of Art & Verse. “This is truly a calling,” says Dorothy. “My art is the language of the soul. Through it, I explore the workings of the human spirit through its relationships, its insights, its struggles and its enlightenment.” She explains what means most to her is when someone comes into her tent at an art fair and tells her that her art touches their soul.
Dorothy’s art can be purchased on her website at www.dburyshaw.com and also viewed on Facebook under DBuryShawARTISTpoet and on Instagram at Dorothy_Bury_Shaw.
