Springtime has finally arrived. Here are some not-to-miss gardening events happening this month throughout the western suburbs:

DESIGNING WITH PERENNIALS June 8, 2019 (Saturday) • Aurora How to Start a Colorful Perennial Garden June 8, 1pm, Aurora, Free In the world of perennials, there are 1000s of ways to create colorful color combinations, mix different textures, and a pop of personality to your garden. In this class, we’ll show you how to get started. No registration required. More information here

 

WELLNESS STRETCHING FOR GARDENING • JUNE 12

9–10am, Mayslake

Explore ways to keep your muscles and joints flexible as you work in your garden. Be ready to stretch and move at this active beginner’s program, and learn easy ways to keep your whole body (and mind) fit. Ages 18 and up. $3 per person in advance; $5 at the program. GARDENER'S ART FEST • JUNE 22

The Growing Place, Aurora

Spend the day on Saturday, June 22nd, wandering through the gardens as you explore over 30 local artists, enjoy live music from singer/songwriter Jason Benefield, and munch on tasty food from Everdine’s Grilled Cheese Co. This year’s garden talks feature Andrew Parravano of Andrew’s Garden in downtown Wheaton at 11am. He’ll show you simple ways to make gorgeous bouquets from your garden. At 12pm, Cora Jacobs, fine art photographer, will walk you through the gardens to show you how to take great pictures with your smartphone. Rounding out the talks at 10am, A Kaleidoscope of Color and at 1pm, Painting with Succulents.

The Growing Place Garden Center is located at 25w471 Plank Rd in Naperville. Just two blocks south of Ogden Ave/Rte 34 and 2 blocks west of Naper Blvd. The festival runs 9am-5pm and all talks are free to attend. Visit www.thegrowingplace.com/calendar for the full schedule of talks and activities.

10am: A Kaleidoscope of Color - Choosing the best, biggest and brightest perennial blooms for your garden.

11am: Artistic Floral Arranging from the Garden - Andrew Parravano of Andrew's Garden in downtown Wheaton shows simple ways to make gorgeous bouquets.

12pm: Take Nature Pics at Your Fingertips - Walk through our gardens with Cora Jacobs, Fine Art Photographer, as she shows you how to take great pics with your smartphone camera

1pm: A Mosaic of Succulents - Learn how to create a fabulous container of succulents in all shapes and colors.

11am-3pm: Everdine’s Grilled Cheese Co.

1pm-5pm: Jason Benefield, singer/songwriter performs
