THE KEVIN J. LEDERER LIFE FOUNDATION Being a mom brings with it all kinds of joys and heartbreaks, and I am eternally grateful that I have had the opportunity to experience all that motherhood offers.
As an older mom, I struggled in starting a family. I am so thankful for the medical options that were available to us while facing infertility; however, it was a substantial financial strain. The minimal or non-existent coverage insurance companies provide can make it even more difficult for couples who would be amazing parents to pursue infertility treatments. The Kevin J. Lederer Foundation, a non-profit, all volunteer organization, has a mission to support couples diagnosed with infertility throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs through education and financial assistance.
The foundation is named after Dr. Kevin J. Lederer, who was the President and Managing Partner of Fertility Centers of Illinois until he passed away in 2013. His passion was to assist patients overcome the hurdles of infertility and achieve their dreams of building a family. In his memory, the foundation was formed to continue his passion and help as many couples as possible.
“Infertility is a devastating disease that affects 1 in 8 couples,” says Eve Feinberg, MD, who is President and one of the original founders of the Kevin J. Lederer Foundation.
“We have awarded over 50 grants since our inception for a total of $600,000, have had 26 live births, and have five patients who are currently pregnant.” Nearly every fertility center in the Chicagoland area is involved in giving back to patients through the Life Foundation by serving on the medical advisory board or by donating time and medical care to patients in need.
Several fundraising events are run throughout the year including Bowl for Life and Run for Life.
“We have low overhead and most all of the money we raise goes directly back to those in need. I am immensely proud of this,” says Dr. Feinberg. They hope that communities will get involved by attending any of their events, volunteer with the foundation or donate funds. You can find out more about the Kevin J. Lederer Foundation and their needs at their website, www.lifefindsaway.org.
