WEST SUBURBAN VIP | Meet Mackay In the Morning

SCOTT MACKAY of GENEVA 95.9 The River and @Properties Broker SUBURBAN CHICAGO–Waking up at 4:30am to go to work at only 12 years old is quite the feat for most middle schoolers, but Scott thoroughly enjoyed going to the radio station in Brattleboro, VT, with local Jaycee, Dan Taylor and hand him his records.

“When I was 6 years old, I received a microphone and speaker from the Sears Catalogue and I performed my own little radio show,” Scott says. “Growing up, AM radio was playing the hits while the FM stations were playing beautiful music.”

As a Junior and Senior, Scott was able to learn about radio, television, and live broadcasting at their local vocational center in Keene High School. Subsequently, his History substitute teacher was an evening host at WKNE in Keene.

“He had heard my show on the cable and had given me the inside scoop he was leaving in a few months and told me I would be perfect for the job,” Scott shares. “I applied and started working full-time about 3 months before I graduated from High School.”

40 years later, Scott is still turning the microphone on every morning at 5:30am. in his 10th year at Chicago’s 95.9 The River, Mackay in the Morning with Danielle Tufano. He absolutely loves what he does, who he works with, and of course, that he can dress however he wants because no one will see him! He has had the opportunity to interview major celebrities including Casey Kasem, Jason M’raz, and Phil Collins.

When not on-air, Scott can be found helping people buy and sell houses through his real estate venture with his wife, Susie at @Properties in St. Charles.

“The thought that we are responsible for probably the largest purchase of our clients' lives, is amazing,” Scott says. “The people you meet, the struggles you sometimes go through with them, they are life's lessons and are extremely rewarding; our clients become part of our Real Estate family and sometimes a long-term friendship.”

Scott is fulfilled with his busy life living in Geneva. He and Susie have four children between the two of them. When they are not attending activities at Geneva High School for the youngest, he stills find time to bowl and golf; as well as, volunteer in the community with Susie at Tri-City Family Services, Random Acts Matter, The Geneva History Museum, Kids Matter, CASA of Kane County, 360 Youth Services, The Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry, and Youth Outlook. –Kristen Kucharski
