HELPING RESIDENTS | 211 Service Now Available in Kane County

HELPING RESIDENTS IN NEED OF HUMAN SERVICES & RESOURCES

Kane County residents are now able to dial 211 to access information on local human services and resources made available by over 1,000 government, non-profit and faith-based organizations in Kane County. The service, which went live on November 1, provides callers with free and confidential assistance with needs such as emergency shelter, food, utility assistance, counseling, senior services, employment and health care.

Callers are connected to a live specialist 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Calls are received by PATH, an accredited call center in Bloomington, IL, that currently provides service to 40 counties in the state. PATH is AIRS (Alliance of Information and Referral Systems) Certified and Red Cross and FEMA approved for disaster aftermath assistance. Translation is available in over 150 languages and there is no limit on a caller’s age or the number of times the service is used.

The effort to bring 211 to Kane County was led by the Batavia United Way and is supported by funding from Kane County Schools, Kane County Government, Community Foundation of Fox River Valley, the Dunham Fund, and Batavia, Elgin, Fox Valley and Metro Chicago United Ways.

The service is currently up and running on most major phone carriers in the area, however, if your phone carrier does not allow 211 access, please contact PATH at (888) 865-9903.

To learn more about the service, watch this video provided by Kane County 211.
