PURCHASE AT THE RESTAURANT OR HAVE IT SHIPPED
Portillo’s, the fast casual concept known for its menu of Chicago-style favorites, announces today the seasonal return of the restaurant’s previously discontinued Lemon Cake.
Baked daily in-store, the dessert features two yellow cake layers, each topped with lemon frosting. In honor of the cake’s spring comeback, Portillo’s created a video documenting all the ways the iconic cake can alleviate everyday stresses.
After being retired for over a decade, Lemon Cake made its triumphant return to Portillo’s last year, when a Reddit user put up a $300 bounty for anyone with information on how to obtain the cake recipe. The cake became an overnight sensation for Portillo’s; the brand sold more than 90,000 whole Lemon Cakes or 900,000 cakes slices last summer and even appeared on Jimmy Kimmel live.
From April 10 – September 10, 2018, customers can purchase the legendary cake in-store at all Portillo’s locations and via delivery through Portillo’s mobile app. For the first-time, customers can also ship the Lemon Cake to any location in the United States via Portillo’s online Shop & Ship store($49.99).
