ABC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST GINGER ZEE PRESENTS NEW BOOK AT NAPERVILLE EVENT
Once upon a time, Ginger Zee breezed into town and broadcast local weather on Chicago’s NBC station, Channel 5. Her talents rained down and soon her sunshiny personality took Zee to nationally televised ABC’s “Good Morning America” as chief meteorologist, where she appears today.
In 2016, fans also saw Zee’s impressive moves as a dance competitor on the popular show, “Dancing with the Stars.” And if all that excitement is not enough, Zee has added another title: author.
Perfect for middle grade readers is Zee’s new children’s book, Chasing Helicity. It cleverly weaves a weather story, a character obsessed with natural forces and taps the important STEM movement. This is not Zee’s first foray into the book world. This past December, Zee released her revealing memoir, Natural Disaster: I Cover Them. I Am One.
On Monday, April 30 at 7 pm Ginger Zee will share her new children’s title with local fans. This event will be held at Ratio Hall, 131 S. Loomis St. on the campus of North Central College in Naperville. Zee will speak about Chasing Helicity and follow with a booksignng line. Event tickets are available exclusively at GingerZeeAndersons.brownpapertickets.com.
About the Book
Helicity is well aware that her name is unusual - kind of like Helicity herself. The word Helicity means to spin, and for as long as she can remember, Helicity has been fascinated by the weather. The weather is Helicity's escape from her own reality - may that be school, her father's strict discipline, or her brother's imminent departure for college where he's all set to play football.
One fateful day, Helicity and her horse head out on a long ride to take a break from life at home. Even with her vast experience with weather, Helicity is unprepared for the elements she faces. The choices Helicity makes before, during, and after that storm will have a lasting effect on her family and her future.
About the Author
Emmy Award-winner Ginger Zee is "Good Morning America's" chief meteorologist, reporting on the nation's weather throughout the morning broadcast. Since joining ABC News, Zee has covered almost every major weather event and dozens of historic storms. She broadcasted from the devastated Jersey Shore during Hurricane Sandy, the Colorado floods and wildfires, and covered the wreckage from tornados in Moore and El Reno, Oklahoma.
Zee's love of adventure does not stop at studying the atmosphere in the center of the storm. She para-hawked in Nepal, para-glided from the Himalayas to the Andes, dove with sharks in the Bahamas, rappelled 27 stories down the exterior facade of the Wit Hotel in Chicago, plus has gone ice boat racing and surfing.
She competed on “Dancing with the Stars,” season 22, and finished third. She lives in New York City with her husband and two sons.
