BULLSEYE! We are a very competitive family, so anytime we can go somewhere and line up side-by-side and see who the best one at the task is, becomes an exciting and engaging activity for us all. The Archery Place was just opened this past December by Kevin and Michelle Helwig, who have been residents of Montgomery for over 15 years. Kevin offers many years of archery experience and certifications in coaching, judging, and technical schooling; hence providing some pretty awesome guidance and one-on-one attention.
We began by selecting either a Recurve or Compound bow. The majority picked the traditional looking recurve bow; although, myself and Marissa picked the compound bow. I personally just liked the way it looked, and felt like it might give me an advantage because it looked fancier. We took position in our individual lanes and had containers of arrows stationed near us for easy access. We were only 10 yards away from our target giving us what appeared to be an easy shot. Everyone fires, at the same time and everyone removes their arrows at the same time. Safety is a big priority and you never feel like you are dodging bullets at any given time, which is definitely a comforting feeling.
Ready, set, aim, pull…..and whammo – some arrows ended up in the foam mats way above the targets and a couple of us got lucky and actually hit the target – even one bullseye! We were off to a great start and we gained confidence with each shot. We next moved back to the 20 yard line. Let’s just say, it certainly wasn’t as easy as the 10 yard line, and I managed to miss by more than a long shot! Another great adventure for anyone 8 and up!
