September 2016 – SWINGING FROM THE BRANCHES
Climb, hook, snap, clip……balance, breathe.
Hook, snap, clip….swing, climb, balance, breathe.
Hook, snap, clip….weeeeeeeee, run, roll, whew!
We had so much fun at Go Ape Zip Line & Treetop Adventure in Western Springs that there were moments when I was laughing so hard, I could barely breathe; much less, focus on climbing to my next perch high in the sky. It was one of those activities that provided a little fear factor, with a huge adrenaline rush, and plenty of laughs in between, while maneuvering up ladders, traversing obstacles, and zipping across Bemis Woods of Cook County Forest Preserve. This very active adventure is geared toward kids at least 55” inches tall and 10+ years old; but, I hear a Junior Adventure Course may be built soon too allowing smaller kids to also participate.
I can honestly say that although we had a slow start to enjoying our adventure – once our check-in group got past the first 3 obstacles – the skies were the limit for Marissa, Tessa, and I, as we became our own little group and moved at our own pace. This is where the giggling and hysterical laughing began as we chose the more difficult paths which got higher in the trees with each passing of the five water/ladder stations. If at any point between stations, you have reached your personal tolerance of height aversions and ability, you are able to stop before climbing the next ladder. We, of course, had to complete all of them, which involved crossing the longest 62’ long obstacle, swinging into Tarzan nets, and zip lining 600 feet down from the 42’ high platform!
A highly recommended adventure for the active family! -Kristen Kucharski
