A TASTE OF SPAIN UNDER THE SUN

The most wonderful thing about summer is being outside underneath the blue skies. We found the most charming place to dine alfresco. Near downtown Naperville on 5 acres nestled among 150 year old oaks sits the Georgian Style Willoway Mansion. Built in 1847 and restored in 1990, this estate became the home of Meson Sabika. They have been serving traditional Spanish style tapas for 25 years. Tapas style dining originated in southern Spain. The word tapa is derived from the Spanish verb tapar which translates to “cover”. Travelers were served snacks or “tapas” which would include slices of bread, meat or cheese that they would use to cover their glasses between sips. Whether you are new to Spanish tapas or love the traditional hot and cold dishes, there is no better way to try them all than Meson Sabika’s Sunday brunch.

Every Sunday from 10:30-2:00 food lines the inside and spills outside on the patio. The Buffet includes hot and cold Spanish style tapas – patatas con alioli, jamon serrano con queso, pincho de solomillo, datiles con tocino; a carving station of prime rib, fresh ripe fruit, paella – a saffron rice baked with vegetables, shrimp, mussels, clams and scallops; made to order omelets – filled with manchengo cheese and chorizo; traditional breakfast items – scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes rolled and filled with apples. Each adult brunch includes one mimosa or a glass of Cava, a sparkling wine from Spain.

Nothing is over looked at this brunch. Even the children have a special table, just their size so they can serve themselves filled with chicken fingers, hot dogs, hamburgers and fun snacks.

Do not forget to leave a little room for dessert. Each dessert is made to order off the brunch menu. A few choices include, Profiteroles del Pirineo, twin puff pastries filled with vanilla ice cream and topped with chocolate sauce, the flan of the day or Frutas con Mousse Blanco, fresh berries drizzled with raspberry coulis, served with chocolate mousse. Buen provecho!

$32.95 per person, $14.95 children ages 12-6, children

6 and under free. Sundays 10:30-2:00
