2008/2009 Marketing & Editorial Intern, Michelle Sztuk of
Naperville Central High School Completes Magazine Internship

NAPERVILLE, June 10, 2009 - Local community living magazine (monthly distribution 50,000), Glancer Magazine, publisher of The Naperville Glancer and The Wheaton/Glen Ellyn Glancer recently said goodbye to their 2008/2009 marketing and editorial intern, Michelle Sztuk of Naperville Central High School.

Sztuk applied to be an intern at Glancer Magazine as part of the Naperville District 203’s High School Business and Marketing Internship Program, a program which allows students to work at their choice of business for class credit.

“Students that participate in the Business and Marketing Internship Programs at Naperville Central High School are experiencing a true sense of what it is like to work in the “real world” among professionals related to their career goal,” said Jane Callahan, Business & Marketing teacher at Naperville Central.

“Due to the commitment of our training sponsors that take special care with our interns, our students are able to not only contribute meaningfully to the workplace, but also have a chance to network with professionals in their chosen career area. This exposure communicates volumes to the intern, helping to either confirm or delete a career choice,” Callahan added.

From August 2008 through June 2009, Sztuk wrote for both the publication’s monthly magazine and weekly website. You may have read her recurring articles My Life as a Naperville Teenager and Meet the Band.  She also aided the editorial department with online research and general writing and helped in putting together company marketing materials.

Near completion of her internship, Michelle found out that she was accepted to DePaul University in Chicago where she will be headed this upcoming fall and plans to major in marketing.

“Internship programs should ideally enable young students in the field to experience hands on activities that put what they’re learning in the classroom to practice. And, internships should be fun too. Each week, Michelle received a list of tasks to complete and each week the tasks were more challenging,” said Lindy Kleivo, Founding Publisher. “I feel a Glancer Magazine Internship is what any student today is in search of when it comes to an Internship- especially if they are studying journalism, marketing or public relations. It’s fun, yet educational and each will learn a great deal from this program,” said Lindy Kleivo, Glancer Magazine Founding Publisher.
