Barone's Pizza
475 Pennsylvania Avenue
Glen Ellyn – (630) 858-0555
Barone's not only has been a part of Glen Ellyn dining for nearly forty years, it looks like Glen Ellyn on the inside. The walls are adorned with photos, signs and murals of Glen Ellyn life. Its casual interior makes it a perfect spot to enjoy a meal with your extended family. We recently met a few families there for dinner. Our kids ran off to the play video games in the play room while we caught up over drinks.
We tried several items. The chicken noodle and minestrone soups were packed with vegetables. Garlic dressing on your salad is a delicious must. The chicken vesuvio's wine sauce was perfect. Entrée salads were generously portioned. We did not expect the parmesan crusted chicken salad to be large enough for two to three people. The mix of textures enhanced this salad: the chicken was moist and crisp, the croutons soft and toothsome, and the peppercorn dressing silky. The stuffed shells were buried in mozzarella and creamy throughout. The potato gnocchi is offered with several sauces. We found the marinara to contribute robust flavor without drowning the pasta. All thin crust pizzas were abundantly topped with fresh ingredients. Entrees average about $9 and large pizzas start at $13.30. Carry out and delivery is also available. Mangia!

AlFie’s Inn
425 Roosevelt Road
Glen Ellyn – (630) 858-2506
Throngs of hungry diners constantly populate this family restaurant in Glen Ellyn. The brisk service guarantees that your stay at this castle themed establishment will not be prolonged. The reasonable prices of the menu items will not leave you a pauper, as most items have just a single digit before a decimal. Foodstuff ranges from humble sandwiches to burgers to steak and seafood. One can choose to indulge inside or on the patio when weather is favorable.
This ravenous clan weakly held the colossal menus. Fortified with tall, cool soft drinks, we selected a variety of burgers and poultry. Each burger boasts a half pound of freshly ground sirloin chuck served on the freshest of kaiser rolls. The mushroom and swiss or bacon cheddar burgers delight with their salty and savory flavor blends. The avocado bacon and tomato burger delights the palate with soft avocado, crunchy strips of bacon and juicy tomato. The substantial chicken fingers would satisfy any royal appetite. Each of the aforementioned meals is served with an abundance of french fried potatoes. For those seeking heartier fare, the hefty pork chops, t-bone steak or famous baby backed ribs would be most satisfying. When hunger beckons, adjourn to Alfie's, for nary a customer leaves with an empty gut. -Laura & Stephen Price, Dining Critics
