Dr. Selma Rashid
Understanding Hormones
Dr. Selma Rashid will resolve the mystery and controversy surrounding hormones and hormone replacement theory with the release of her new book Hormones Explained in early 2010. Originally from London, Dr. Rashid has studied the field of hormones extensively and has been recognized as an authority internationally. She is deeply involved in preventive medicine and believes that hormonal balance is one of the keys to combating aging. Dr. Rashid is a Naperville resident and medical director of Skin and Laser Aesthetics in Naperville, a facility specializing in both internal and aesthetic medical procedures including Botox treatments, microderm abrasion, acne and vein treatment and laser hair removal.

Dr. Tarun Jain
Helping Couples Become Parents
Dr. Tarun Jain offers couples wishing to have children the latest procedures from simple medications to In Vitro Fertilization. One of the newest techniques is Intra Cytoplasm Sperm Injection which addresses male factor infertility. Instead of needing many sperm, this technique allows the lab to inject a single sperm into an egg. Another innovation is a test for chromosomal abnormalities that can be done from a cell taken from an embryo without hurting the embryo. This allows a couple who are carriers of conditions like cystic fibrosis to select a healthy embryo. Jain says other innovations are pending like the ability to freeze eggs as well as embryos. The Chicago doctor practices in Warrenville with Chicago IVF.

Dr. Nidhi Tiwari
A Need For Specialized Medicine

Naperville resident Dr. Nidhi Tiwari has been practicing since 2003 and will soon be opening a unique practice near Westfield Fox Valley Mall with the Provena Medical Group. She will be targeting two groups with special needs. The first are women from India who are often uncomfortable seeing American physicians due to language and cultural differences. Dr. Tiwari, who is from India, hopes these women will turn to her for care. The second group are people traveling in or out of the United States. She will have vaccines available for foreign travel as well as be licensed to perform immigration physicals for people applying for United States permanent residence status.

Dr. Alan T. Lewis
Making Progress With Autism
As the father of an autistic child, Dr. Allen T. Lewis understands the challenges associated with treating this medical condition. The Naperville doctor has completed research that associates certain behaviors with vitamin or mineral deficiencies. By treating autism with a combination of behavioral, educational, psychiatric, medical, dietary, and biochemical therapy, he has seen great progress in learning and behavior. Dr. Lewis notes that autism presents itself in so many ways that a single treatment isn't going to be effective. As medical director of Pfeiffer Treatment Center in Warrenville, Dr. Lewis and his staff are able to offer hope to parents of autistic children.

Dr. Steven Tichy
Offering Services to the Homebound
Dr. Steven Tichy is the emergency doctor for Wheaton Eye Clinic and also provides eye exams for homebound patients. To make the visits, he loads portable versions of his eye examination equipment into the car and is able to provide most of the office eye care services in a home. "I meet such wonderful people," he says. "Last night I visited a woman who had a stroke. Her husband took care of her with no complaints. There was such a loving relationship there. While I wait for the patient's eyes to dilate, we talk and it is wonderful." Dr. Tichy lives and loves Naperville and makes visits in the western suburbs through referrals.

Dr. Matthew D'Alessio
New Procedure for Treating Liver Tumors
Dr. Matthew D'Alessio is offering hope to patients with liver tumors once thought to be inoperable. Using a technique known as microwave ablation, the surgeon is able to remove or destroy a tumor in a minimally invasive manner with little blood loss. A special probe is used that emits microwaves that heat up the tumor to destroy it. Larger tumors can be addressed by heating up the tissue around the tumor to seal it and make removal safer. D'Alessio, a Naperville resident, is the only surgeon in the Western suburbs offering this revolutionary treatment. He is part of the DuPage Medical Group and has practices in Naperville and Glen Ellyn.

Dr. Susie Warden
Focus On Preventive Medicine
"We believe in the proactive approach rather than the reactive approach," says Dr. Susie Warden of Advanced Health Associates. The Glen Ellyn resident has opened centers for health and wellness in Wheaton, North Wheaton, Naperville and Glendale Heights. Instead of waiting for illness to strike, Dr. Warden advocates a healthy diet, exercise and a lifestyle that helps people stay healthy. She is opening a health and wellness club in spring 2010 in Wheaton that takes a total care approach for families. The new center will offer everything from chiropractic care to aromatherapy to nutrition and health education for a single family fee.

Dr. Steven Sigalove
Doctor Offers Mommy Makeovers
Dr. Steven Sigalove specializes in plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as cosmetic surgery. He offers his patients a unique package known as a "Mommy Makeover" that addresses the loose skin and stretched muscles from childbirth. Depending upon the patient needs, Sigalove completes a tummy tuck, breast augmentation or lift and liposuction in a first phase. Additionally he can address facial issues as needed with injections or facelifts in a second phase. The makeover is completed as outpatient surgery in one or two visits. There is minimal recovery time and the goal is a natural appearance. Dr. Sigalove lives in Glen Ellyn and has offices with DuPage Medical Group in Glen Ellyn, Naperville and Warrenville.

Dr. Andrew Kim
Streamlining Hip and Knee Replacements
Naperville resident Dr. Andrew Kim of M & M Orthopedics is performing less invasive hip and knee replacements. The traditional approach to this surgery involved a foot long incision through muscles. However, Dr. Kim has been able to reduce the incision by 50% or more and minimize muscle dissection through innovative techniques. The amount of pain is reduced and the recovery time is shortened by about one month with these techniques. He is also using new materials for the replacement that require no cement, last longer and perform better than traditional materials. Dr. Kim has offices in Naperville and Aurora.

Dr. Jeffrey Miller
Progress Towards Treating Strokes
"We can now stop a stroke and even reverse its effects," say Dr. Jeffrey Miller, director of the Neurosciences Institute at Edward Hospital. A new neurointerventional suite opened in September equipped with a biplane angiography system that provides doctors with a 360 degree image allowing faster and more accurate treatment. Areas of the brain thought to be too dangerous to enter can now be treated with the equipment. Dr. Miller is able to maneuver a catheter through a leg artery into the brain to remove a clot quickly. The equipment is also used to treat aneurysms and brain tumors. Dr. Miller lives in Naperville and is also on the faculty of Northwestern University.
